Mrs. Hackney and her son Cade.

Mrs. Hackney and her son, Cade, are headed to Scotland! Cade is a bagpiper, and Mrs. Hackney is a tenor drummer in the Knoxville Pipes and Drums, and will compete in the World Bagpipe Championships.

For the last year they have been planning, practicing, and rehearsing for a trip to their ancestral roots.

They are honored to represent Knoxville and the state of Tennessee on one of the world's biggest stages for pipe bands. This trip celebrates the deep Scottish heritage that continues to influence East Tennessee.

The band will compete in the competition on Aug. 15, and is the first pipe band from Tennessee to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships.

They are beyond excited to be bringing a wee bit of Rocky Top to the Scottish Highlands. 🍊 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

In music classes, Mrs. Hackney has been showing students videos of the band, and demonstrating her flourishing drumstick techniques to students!

We are so proud of Mrs. Hackney and all that she represents as she takes her love of music from Montvale Elementary to the Scottish Highlands! We are thrilled to celebrate this incredible accomplishment with her and Cade and will be cheering them on every step of the way. Go, Mrs. Hackney! Bring home a wee bit of Scotland—and lots of Rocky Top pride! Neyland Stadium🎶🏰
